DeKeyser Thunder Bolts

As you may know or may not know, Destination ImagiNation is an exhilarating after-school activity in which students work in teams to solve mind-bending Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments. Destination ImagiNation is dedicated to promoting three life-long values: Creativity, Teamwork and Problem Solving.
This year, a group of students from DeKeyser Elementary, The Thunder Bolts, led by team coaches, Kris and Kevin Verbrugge,  participated in the DI program. Their event: Spinning a Tale. The students created a three-act play teaching about the water cycle. In addition to their performance piece, they also completed an "Instant Challenge", which is an opportunity to show how they use team work and problem solving to come up with a solution to a problem presented to them.

They were excited when they took a first place in the regional tournament held at Ford High School in March. This meant they could advance to the State Affiliate Competition level. In April, they were thrilled when they took a third place and also won a Renaissance Award. The award is given for outstanding skill in the areas of design, engineering execution or performance. The top two teams in the state have the opportunity to advance to the Global Finals. The students thought they missed their chance to move forward, but on April 27, they received the call to advance on to the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee, from May 25-28, where they will compete against the top students from around the world.
With such short notice, we are working to try to raise funds to participate in this fantastic opportunity. The students need to raise $5000, by May 15, to cover the cost of registration and transportation to the event.  Any donation will help, and your support will help ensure that the Thunder Bolts team is able to participate in the Destination ImagiNation Global Finals May 25-28.
We hope that we can count on you to support the Thunder Bolts. Please use the link above or below to make a donation through Paypal. For more information about DI go to www.idodi.org.

Thank you from the families of these students, and of course the students themselves!
